Gheybin Comish has been a mainstay at The Rose Establishment , a local coffeeshop and bakery, for almost three years. You may have seen her buzzing around on her bright yellow Ducati Scrambler or noticed her unique urban style. To view her paintings and drawings, visit gheybin.tumblr.com or @gheybin on Instagram.
Special thanks to The Rose Establishment , who hosted this month’s SLUG Style in (and on top of) their beautiful building.
Every month, SLUG Style features a distinct and unique member of the community and asks them why they do what they do. Exploring more than just clothing, SLUG Style endeavors to feature the people who give Salt Lake City flavor through personality and panache.

“I don’t like clothes that have brand names on them,” says Comish. “I have a pretty short, curvy body, so I try to dress in a flattering way for that, which means not a lot of boxy things. Motorcycling dictates what I wear almost all the time. I probably used to wear a lot more skirts, but now I’m always wearing jeans and boots, even in the summertime. All the time, I’m wearing jeans and boots.” Photo: Tyson Call @clancycoop

“I feel like I dress kind of boring,” says Comish. “I think about colors a lot, so I’m pretty picky about colors. The colors I wear are the colors I feel, which sounds super dorky. I like colors that are a mix of other colors. I don’t like a color that’s a pure color, I like a color that’s been diluted with another color. Like a grey that’s also a purple.” Photo: Tyson Call @clancycoop
“I’ve been riding for four years now,” says Comish. “It’s my main transportation. I don’t have a car or anything. I have a bicycle for snowy days. It’s my main transportation, and it’s my favorite thing—I love it.” Photo: Tyson Call @clancycoop
“With my old bike, I felt like I had more leering. I don’t know if things are different now—if there’s more women motorcyclists or if my new bike is different,” says Comish. “Now, less leering, and more men want to talk to me about the bike. My bike will be outside someplace, and I’ll be inside a place with my helmet, and a man will come up to me and say, ‘Is that your Ducati outside?’ and want to talk to me specifically about what this bike is like, which is way better. That’s fun—instead of gross.” Photo: Tyson Call @clancycoop
Comish has been working at The Rose Establishment,—a local bakery and coffee shop—for two and a half years. Their excellent, made-to-order coffee and close proximity to the SLUG Magazine office makes it a favorite among staffers. Photo: Tyson Call @clancycoop

“I paint and draw. I’m really into drawing. I do pencil and gouache—it’s watercolor-y looking. [My drawings] are pretty whimsical, emotional things. A lot of animals, and people, faces. Things like that.” Photo: Tyson Call @clancycoop
