Local Reviews: Pop Gun War
Love obscure abstract hip hop? Pop Gun War does the experimental wave of futuristic sounding tracks extremely well. These are the type of beats machines would make if they had minds and wanted to create songs that machines would listen to. … read more

Souls of Mischief @ Urban
Souls of Mischief are definitely not strangers to our great city of salt. Not only do the Souls frequently perform here as a group but they also come through on solo tours and with their larger group Hieroglyphics—They are like family to the hip hop community here. … read more

GZA: Substance Over Numbers
The GZA, also known as the Genius, is one of the great veterans of hip hop. In 1995 his album Liquid Swords was named one of Source Magazine’s 100 greatest hip hop albums of all time. After all the hard work and time he has put into his music, he still constantly raises the bar for himself and for everyone around him, proving why he and the Wu Tang Clan are still as strong and dangerous as ever.

Doomtree: Family Over Fame
The Doomtree collective is different than many of today’s modern hip hop groups. They’re not in it for fame, bitches, cars, bling, or money—even though it would be nice to someday get paid for following their musical passion. Doomtree simply exist to produce music. Doomtree define themselves as not only as a record label and a group of solo artists working together as a music group but also above all else, as a family. … read more
