Director: Derick Martini
Director Derick Martini grants the audience access to significant moments of his personal life in this coming-of-age drama about first loves, failed marriages, and Lyme disease. It’s the 1970s and Scott Bartlett (Rory Culkin) is the class punching bag, secretly in love with his neighbor Adrianna (Emma Roberts), and overwhelmed by his protective mother. Life is difficult. When the discovery is made that his father (Alec Baldwin) is having an affair, the once simple happy life is changed forever. Rather than a traditional story with a beginning, middle, and end, Lymelife provides the audience with a mere glimpse into the lives of the Bartlett family, allowing a reflection into the skeletons in our closets. While Rory and Kieran Culkin’s charming yet comical chemistry of brotherly love is executed flawlessly, Timothy Hutton’s manifestation of a gradually declining victim to the tick-borne disease is another reason to view this raw representation of the American dream.
