Caught somewhere between Curve and Garbage (yes I know that’s a slim alley) with an over-apparent love for My Bloody Valentine, the combination of Helen Storer and Dave Hillis produce a nice wall of distorted pop that is good enough to make up for the fact that it isn’t an entirely new avenue of exploration. Still there is something missing, perhaps summed up by the melancholy cover of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill.” It is beautiful, moving but without the sonic bite of the original and as a result the emotional release never comes and you’re left with something twisting inside that wants to break out.
