The Black Heart Rebellion = Amenra + Swans

TBHR is a Belgian ex-hardcore band who have evolved their sound in recent years into a post-rock, dark folk quality full of foreboding and atmospheric tension. The result is surprisingly psychedelic and trance-like with tracks like “Om Benza Satto Hung” and “Near To Fire For Bricks.” For the most part, the album moves at a slow pace and utilizes a wide array of percussion instruments, which makes each track feel like the musical accompaniment to a sacred ritual. Thus, People When You See the Smoke… is refreshingly independent of genre because you can hear it from many angles. It’s dark, it’s mystic and definitely worth sticking your head into for a little while. –Nic Smith
