Parker Mortensen

Parker Mortensen (they/them) is SLUG’s Communications Coordinator and prolific producer of our podcast, SLUG Soundwaves. Having been a contributor to SLUG as a Senior Staff Writer since 2016, Mortensen’s passion for capturing the personalities of the Salt Lake art scene has left a noticeable imprint on the magazine as a whole. This expanded to encompass the Soundwaves’ voice and style in 2018 when Mortensen became Producer—their fascination with deep, interpersonal connection in their art coverage melded well with their ability to weave audio narratives, and Soundwaves’ direction has taken on that passion. Since coming on as Communications Coordinator in October 2021, Mortensen has worked diligently to imbue the artistic freedom they felt they received as a Contributor into their work coordinating community-centric SLUG features such as Bold & Beautiful and SLUG Style. Moved by Salt Lake artists’ ability to subvert expectations of their conservative state, Mortensen is sure to keep on exploring the many ways in which SLC residents share their lives.
