Job Title: Communications Coordinator
Department: Editorial
Reports to: Executive Editor, Managing Editor, Junior Editor
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the Executive Editor, Managing Editor and Junior Editor in coordinating a large volunteer team of freelance writers, photographers, designers and illustrators
- Obtain assets and other information from interviewee parties and publicists for article publication
- Edit and copy edit content for online and print publication; perform first reads for select print and online documents; enter editorial changes to documents
- Provide feedback for volunteer freelance writers with oversight from Managing Editor and Junior Editor
- Process publicist emails, press releases, music promos and more
- Work with editorial interns
- Update and oversee event listings for SLUG Magazine’s Daily Calendar
- Coordinate Daily Calendar email and events
- Work with Editorial and Community Development team on newsletters, e-blasts and other public communications
- Noting, logging, corresponding about and otherwise organizing outside (local and nonlocal) submissions
- Work with Editorial team to coordinate editorial social media content
- Perform operational duties with SLUGMag.com and SLUG Magazine
- Update editorial calendars and additional editorial documents
- Actively pitch and research potential editorial content
- Assist other departments in editing and drafting copy
- Assist in operational duties as an Associate Producer of SLUG Soundwaves
- Post and oversee posting of print and online content on SLUGMag.com
- Writing copy for, upkeeping, updating and correcting posting errors on SLUGMag.com
- Write quality magazine articles on various arts and culture subjects
- Balance SLUG Magazine’s editorial standards with expected publishing schedules
- Adhere to the code of journalism ethics as set by the Society of Professional Journalists
- Represent SLUG Magazine and actively reach out to the community at local events
- Perform operational duties on SLUGMag.com; Implement SEO practices in online posts
- Create, write, modify headlines and other elements of online posts for SEO advancement
- Selecting archive content and publishing selections
- Digital capturing of archive content
QUALIFICATIONS
- SLUG Magazine reader
- Strong understanding of magazine principles and SLUG Magazine’s brand
- Passion for Utah’s local scene and elevating Utah’s creative culture
- Keen knowledge of various genres of underground/youth music
- Maintain SLUG Magazine’s core values of quality and transparency
- Experienced and published writer
- Impeccable grammar and copy editing skills
- Knowledge of AP Style guidelines
- Working knowledge of Adobe CS6, WordPress, SEO a plus
- Must be available to work some occasional nights and weekends
