Gallery Stroll: Living the Authentic Life: Stroll, Ride, Stroll
With today’s global Internet content, instant Twitter feeds, social media boasting and a sickening amount of over-sharing, I find more and more people looking for an authentic experience—something they can’t manipulate or recreate online. Since the summer of 2012, the Bad Kids Collective has shaken up Salt Lake’s drag scene, made connections with the global genderfuck community and established a home for queer artists at Metro Bar. Now, at “terrible” 2 years old, SLUG catches up with founding braintrust Cartel Chameleon Fenicé and performers Jezebel Jet and The Bearded Femme about where they’ve been, where they’re headed and why their approach to gender-integrated performance art is a vital force in queer Utah. … read more

War Horse @ Capitol Theater 04.22
The performances in the play were solid, but considering the emotional content of the film, it would be hard to be anything less. The story is so strong that it carries the actors through it. A half hour into the performance I was completely zoned in. … read more
Beer and Ballet: A Fun Night with Ballet West and...
Beer and Ballet, a fundraiser for Ballet West, was a magnificent event. Guests enjoyed an elegant gala (with beer!) and a preview of “The Rite of Spring.” Epic Brewing co-hosted the evening, providing bottles of a few of their most popular brews. Mingling in the lobby of the beautiful Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre, delectable bites were served by The Annex, Epic’s gastro-pub located in Sugarhouse, in addition to Epic Brewing’s ales and lagers. I happily used my three drink tickets (and one of my husband’s) on the Spiral Jetty IPA. Food and beer lines moved quickly and service was friendly. … read more
An Evening with Ira Glass @ Kingsbury Hall 04.12
Glass invited an audience to Kingsbury Hall Saturday night composed of everyone from young college students to older men and women. After a brief introduction from KUER, the lights went dark. The unmistakable soft voice of Glass came over the audience. He joked that because it’s radio, you can’t see anything—“the invisibility of radio,” he called it. … read more

SLUG Style: Jesse Walker of New City Movement
“The scene and its people have taught me how to take risks, a few tricks and that you can’t take yourself so fucking seriously, most of all,” he says. Jesse (aka “Mr.” Jesse Walker) prefers not to try and force any particular look, but, rather, to absorb it and let it flow naturally, creating an organic, simple style that is his own. … read more
Sambo Fogo’s Inspiraçâo Do Fogo @ Rose Wagner Performing Arts...
Sambo Fogo, in addition to presenting Brazilian dance as fine art, also shows a clear commitment to the non-formal aspects of dance, specifically its capacity for improving cultural awareness and fostering social relations. In line with this, the company warmly encourages spontaneous audience response and interaction with its work, while the work is being performed. Thursday’s crowd did not fail to applaud, cheer, and rise to its feet at key moments during the evening. … read more
